Course Description

The course is based on the physical theatre approach of Jacques Lecoq and selectively integrates tools from the methods of M. Chekhov, J. Grotowski, and Marcel Marceau, offering a comprehensive introduction to physical theatre, gestural theatre, and psychophysical acting. The central focus is the emergence of the actor’s “poetic body” and the development of a personal performative dramaturgical vocabulary. Special emphasis is placed on presence and silence, embodied expression of emotion, bodily transformation, the structuring of movement, musicality, and the management of weight and rhythm. The course aims to deepen students’ interpretative and performance skills through structured improvisations and original solo compositions, with equal attention to process and performance outcome.

After the successful completion of the course, students will:

  • demonstrate awareness of their physical capacities as a core tool for theatrical practice;
  • distinguish basic forms of gestural and physical acting and their stage realisation;
  • apply technical skills related to physical performance (body control, balance, breath, weight distribution, spatial levels, and dynamic intensity);
  • develop a role through rhythm, dynamics, interaction, physical dramaturgy, improvisation, and spatial-temporal awareness;
  • read and interpret the production of meaning through the body and respond creatively to performative challenges.
